Substance Use

If you are struggling with your use of alcohol or drugs, you may feel overwhelmed with what’s going on in your life and not sure if you want to reach out for help. No matter what you’re experiencing right now or what’s happened in the past, you can start to take small steps that will lead you to the life you want to live.

When I first meet with you, I won’t ask you to dredge up everything from your past – I’ll focus on getting to know you and what’s really important to you. I’ll encourage you to talk about what you want to get bigger in your life and some specific goals you want to achieve. Because I believe you are the expert of your life, I’ll encourage you to explore your strengths and what is working in your life, as well as what could get in the way of reaching your goals.

Each session, I’ll encourage you to share what is better since we last met (there’s always something!). We’ll talk about the goal you’re focusing on and I’ll help you evaluate your progress. I’ll encourage you to reflect on times when you were successful in moving toward the goal and we’ll talk about what you did to be successful so that you can keep doing what’s working for you. We’ll also explore additional coping skills that will keep you moving forward and I’ll help you learn these skills so that you can start using them right away.

Take a minute and visualize the life you want to live. You CAN have this life and you deserve it!

“Sometimes when you are in a dark place, you think you’ve been buried, but you’ve actually been planted.”
