Individual Therapy Services

“In a forest of a hundred thousand trees, no two leaves are alike. And no two journeys along the same path are alike.”

- Paulo Coelho

Because I respect that you are a unique individual, I will take the time to get to know you so that I can tailor our counseling sessions to meet your needs. I believe that you are the expert of your life and see myself as a guide who can help you explore the knowledge and tools that will best help you navigate your journey.

Based on your unique personality, history, and needs, I will create a therapeutic approach that will include aspects of: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-focused Therapy, and self compassion. Click on My Approach to Therapy tab for more detailed information.

What Will My First Therapy Session Look Like?

The first thing I hope you notice is my commitment to providing a safe space built on acceptance and respect where you can feel free to express yourself without fear of being judged. We will first spend some time getting to know each other so we can decide if we will work well together. If we decide that we’re a good fit, I’ll encourage you to talk about what is important to you, what is working in your life and what isn’t, and what is getting in the way of you living the life you want.

I will also encourage you to reflect on your strengths and to realize that, in the words of Jon Kabat-Zinn, “As long as you are breathing, there is more right with you than wrong with you.” I do this because when we feel overwhelmed and lost, we often forget the strengths we have and the coping skills that have helped us in the past. When you get in touch with your strengths, you can more easily tap into them as you start on your journey.

I’ll also encourage you to start exploring the life that you want to create for yourself. We’ll talk about the dreams that you thought could never come true and the ones you’ve “put on the shelf” until you thought the time was right.

“Tell me, what is it that you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

- Mary Oliver

When you leave our first session, my wish is that you take two things with you. The most important thing I want you to have is HOPE. No matter what you are going through, you can start to make meaningful changes in your life right away and your life can start to get better. You’ve already made one change in your life by making a decision to engage in therapy!
I also want you to have a renewed awareness of the strengths you already possess because they will serve you well on your journey. My wish is that you take these heart-felt words with you and always carry them in your heart.

“Always remember you are
Braver than you believe
Stronger than you seem and
Smarter than you think”

– Christopher Robin

Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work; you don’t give up.

- Anne Lamott
